This 7-day safari follows one of nature’s greatest spectacles—the Great Migration of over a million wildebeests and zebras across the Serengeti. Timed according to the migration season, this adventure places you in the heart of the action, where dramatic river crossings, predator encounters, and sweeping plains filled with wildlife create unforgettable memories. You’ll explore Tarangire, Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater, experiencing Tanzania’s most iconic landscapes and wildlife in one epic journey.
Begin your safari with a morning drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park. Known for its majestic baobab trees and vast elephant herds, Tarangire’s rolling hills and river valleys are also home to lions, leopards, and large antelope populations. Spend the day exploring the park’s scenic beauty before heading to your lodge for the night.
After breakfast, head towards the Serengeti, traveling through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, enjoy wildlife sightings and beautiful landscapes. Enter Serengeti National Park and enjoy your first game drive across the plains, where lions lounge beneath acacia trees and giraffes graze against endless horizons. Arrive at your camp or lodge in the Seronera area for overnight.
Today you track the herds. Depending on the migration’s location (either northern Serengeti, western corridor, or southern plains depending on the season), spend your day following massive herds of wildebeests and zebras. Witness thrilling predator-prey interactions as lions, cheetahs, and crocodiles follow the migration. Spend the evening at your mobile or permanent camp near the action.
Dedicate another full day to exploring the migration corridors. If traveling during the northern migration (June–October), head towards the Mara River to possibly witness dramatic river crossings filled with chaos and survival. At other times of the year, follow the calving herds in the south or the moving columns in the west. Break for a picnic lunch in the wild before continuing your game drives.
Enjoy a final morning game drive in Serengeti’s golden light, seeking out predators and the last herds before leaving the plains. Depart for the Ngorongoro Highlands, where cooler temperatures and scenic crater rim views welcome you. Arrive at your lodge perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater for dinner and overnight.
Descend early into the Ngorongoro Crater, often called the "Garden of Eden," where dense wildlife populations thrive within the crater walls. Look out for black rhinos, large elephant bulls, lions, buffaloes, and countless antelope species. After a full morning of game viewing, enjoy a picnic lunch beside the hippo pool before ascending back to the crater rim for an afternoon at leisure.
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Arusha. Along the way, stop at craft markets or scenic viewpoints. Arrive in the afternoon, marking the end of your Great Migration adventure.
